TOURNAMENT FORMAT

One of our great success stories is the 'Suits and Boots' tournament which originated in 2006

For years, Coach Garvin attempted to format a tournament anyone can win regardless of their average or age and also make it a real fun experience regardless how you actually do perform on the day.

'Suits and Boots' is a winner.  The attributes of the success are the

  •   *  Format
  •   *  Consolation Prizes
  •   *  BEAT THE COACH
  •   *  Perfect 900 series no-tap jackpot
  •   *  Emcee

FORMAT- Suits and Boots Champion

It is a three game tournament and lane numbers depend on entries and available lanes. Participants need to provide their current highest league average, the league name and the Centre.

To win the 'Suits and Boots" title, you must exceed your average by 1 pin or more in every game and score the most over average combined in all your three games.

There is no handicap, you are not graded, just beat your average.

It is hard to do About 1 in 7 bowlers actually do this.

There's a difference

There is a lane change after each game. The lane you are bowling next all depends if you made average.  if you did, then you will be bowling in the middle lanes, if not, then on the outer lanes you go.

That way for game 2 and game 3, all the bowlers who are trying for the title will be together. This adds pressure and allows the Emcee's to focus on those bowlers and add just a little bit more pressure.

We are not after easy victories.

ADDITIONAL CONSOLATION PRIZES

To keep the interest alive, there are other consolation prizes that are awarded on the day.

They being

  •   *  Most Spares
  •   *  Most Closed Frames
  •   *  BEAT THE COACH
  •   *  or the 8 No-Tap Jackpot

These could change each tournament and others could be added as spot prizes. It does depend on number of entries. Over 36 entries would be ideal.

We strive to ensure there is a balance of winners to even the competition payouts. Obviously the No-Tap would go to a higher average bowler most times. This rewards the higher average bowlers who have invested in their game. It is also a carrot for the beginner or average bowler to increase their ability.

BEAT THE COACH

Although this was not meant to over ride the 'Suits and Boots' champion glamour it is definitely a single game head to head shoot out that has the crowd pumping.

Another fantastic thought by Coach Garvin in his wisdom to fill in time while the prizes are being tabulated and bowlers are not waiting around for half an hour or so getting bored.

Only TLC Athletes can be drawn to play in this novelty event against a TLC Coach.  After game 2, three names are picked from the box to play against the nominated Coach. Although there is about $15 - 20 on offer for anyone who BEATS THE COACH in the one game shoot out, it's more the bragging rights the Athlete has.

There is so much US verses THEM going on. All the spectators support the Athletes and the Coaches only have themselves to support. It is also the only time the Coaches can get away with ridiculing Athletes, distract them, be negative towards them just to get some type of edge.

The Coaches are never to be behind the Athletes in the overall tally.  Well it has happened when Coach Garvin failed in the first attempt.

You have got to experience it as a bowler or spectator.

PERFECT 8 NO-TAP JACKPOT

Have you go what it takes to ensure each game your first ball is 8 or more?  No one has succeeded so far. This is achievable however watch our for the Emcee who will focus on your efforts and highlight them to all to watch you.

You have got to handle your nerve.

The Jackpot builds each tournament that is held.  Who will be our first winner?

EMCEE

Bring on the announcer. Yes all participants need to complete their personal Athlete Bio card.  We have on lane interviews with who ever.

Distractions are a must.

All bowlers know that the microphone puts them off their game.  At 'Suits and Boots' the mike is on all the time.

In 2007 the format is being tested similar to radio.  There will be two DJ's talking gossip, providing updates, reading athlete bio's picking on people and what ever else they want to do.
