Sarah makes State team Print E-mail
Sunday 14th September 2008

Sarah, now in the elite of junior ranks.

We have followed her progress from a 10 year old girl bowling scores of 80 at Ballarat just three years ago to a developing and maturing person and bowler at the age of 13 who along the way has made several representative teams in the Country Cup and Junior Shield, made two finals appearances at the Vic 150 which included a televised 200 game and several other achievements.

Sarah Newman has achieved another pinnacle in bowling making the Victorian Presidents Shield team qualifying fifth with a PB tournament average of 177.

This is where the best of the state compete for a spot to play next April in the National Championship.

Newman went into this roll off as an outside chance of making 7th spot. In the end, it was the experience she went for to prepare her next year for the roll off into the Vic State team.  Let's not underestimate her.  She keeps improving her average each tournament and this is your reward.

Sarah has continually had coaching sessions fortnightly for three years and when you see her, she is almost flawless in her technique.  She has learned two release types this year to deal with lane conditions and she also trains at the Silver Basics level.

Let's not finish without thanking mum, Liz who enables Sarah to play tenpin and compete at different tournaments. Occasionally her grandparents also take her to training and competitions when mum can't.

It is still loads of fun for Newman when she is on and off the lanes and that's one of the qualities all of us admire about her.
