Vic 150 Finalists
Monday, 14 April 2008
March 23rd 2008

A big congratulations to three finalists of the TEAM TLC Squad,
Karen Newman, Sarah Newman and Chloe Pearson.

It was a high scoring event once again even more so in the graded division where qualifying was the highest it has been in several years.

All three competed fantasticly and handled the television lanes well.

For Karen and Chloe it was their first finals appearance and Sarah's second. All our squad members displayed great sportswomenship on the lanes throughout the three days.

Suits and Boots Historical records April 2008
Check out to see where you are on the all-time lists.  Challenge yourself and set goals to improve your position in Suits and Boots.

Congratulations to another new Two Time Winner

Alexander Lockwood

Who has also taken out his second title in three contests.

With four left in the final Lockwood held on to be the only one who finished in the final.  It was a record breaking day for Lockwood and it was hard for anyone to catch him the way he was bowling.

Personal best records he broke today were
High game and 1st ever 200 with a 205
High three game series of  537
High four game series of  709

He also broke the all time high pins over average in Suits and Boots with 144+ for the day and is sitting on ten games over average in a row.

Many thanks go out to Rod, the Manager at Keon Park who presented Alexander with a bowling pin for his first 200 game.

As for Graham and the Ballarat girls, Judy and Sarah, it was a last game fade out.  These events help us learn our game so we can improve and ensure that our bigger tournaments are handled better.

In brief there were great scoring conditions with ten 200 games bowled in the 33 games on the day.  The best percentage in Suits history to date.  Back to back 200 games went to
-  Judy Wright with 209 and 213,
-  Margie Lee with 222 and 223 and
-  Coach Graham with 205 and 200.

Congratulations to Lonnie who entered his first Suits and Boots today and thanks are extended to all our competitors who showed great spirit in assisting him with his pin spotting.  Lonnie is totally blind and has a great technique and doesn’t need the use of the hand rails. Hope that Lonnie attends more often in the future.

Most spares
This was a low scoring event due to so many strikes on the day.  Noel Medson lead the field with 15 spares holding off  Judy and Ben with 13. As for Ben, today was an achievement for him finishing second place with his spares. Due to his low average when he started with TLC, he was never a chance at cashing for most spares.  His solid improvement overtime has rewarded him and we should see Ben in the prizes again in the future.

Jackpot
What do we say.  Maybe we should split the jackpot to a seven and eight no tap just so that small prizes can be earned along the way. I welcome feedback to new ideas that would suit the bowlers more. Send your ideas in now.

Beat the Coach
Well Coach Graham, the Silver Streak held onto a good lead from the start and ensured that this remained till the end. Opening with a five bagger was enough to seal the deal with a whitewash.  Judy and bubs were really tired in the end, Benny Boy couldn’t find a good line all day and Alexander fired another big effort with a 172 game to close his day out.

Scores
Graham 212,  Alexander 172,  Judy 149 and Ben 109.

Coach’s rap up.
This was a good tournament to see the development and progress of the Athletes.  More and more, pocket balls are occurring with improving scores.  The juniors are really scoring so well which is a credit to them.

This is the year that Sarah and Robo will try our for the Junior State team (President Shield) and they do have a good shot.  Both are bowling at levels to make the cut, its just how the tournament goes on the Sunday to them making the team.

I saw Lonnie, a B1 (vision impaired) bowler today with a technique that would have him field in the top 10 B1 bowlers in the world.  A few lessons should see an improvement and who knows, where could he go from there.

I like to see frustration on the lanes where there is still the thought process occurring to overcoming the obstacles on the day. This shows me that the athletes are thinking about their game and not just throwing in the towel.  A credit to you all.
It’s hard to come out and get each game over average.  One or two balls go astray and it’s usually the game is under average.

I like seeing the challenge as bowlers develop their ability and need to maintain their game and coaching progress so it does not slip.

In comparison to a year ago,
-  Judy has improved 10 pins,
-  Robo 22 pins,
-  Sarah 9 pins,
-  Ben 10 pins and
-  Alexander 12 pins.

These bowlers are still putting out good consistent scores and there are more athletes who have only just started in Suits in the last few months that will go the same way.

Coach Garvin Interview - 700 series
Tuesday, 25 March 2008

The following document is an interview with Coach Garvin about how he rolled a 700 series.

What is special about this feat is he has only rolled a 700 series once before and he has been out of the game for 4 years.

It captures an insight to his performance and how the coaching programs he teaches enabled him to achieve this result and how you can beneift too.
